Three Pieces of Utilitarian Stoneware, American, second half 19th century, a very rare undecorated butter crock with lid, the lid impressed with the cobalt-highlighted mark, "E.D. STOW & CO. / PHILADA."; paired with a two-gallon crock with large stenciled cobalt eagle design, Northeastern U.S. origin. Lid with significant chips to knob, poorly-restored chipping to bottom edge of rim, and large chips and wear to flange on underside of lid. Butter crock, which is unmarked, has a poorly-restored crack from rim, a few poorly-restored rim chips, scattered unrestored exfoliation, and crazing to surface. Eagle crock with a large chip to exterior of rim, a small chip to interior of rim, a faint Y-shaped line under one handle, and some staining.
