Two Pieces of New Brunswick, NJ Stoneware, second half 19th century, a two-gallon crock with cobalt-script "2", stamped with the rare maker's mark, "MULLEN & CONNOLLY / MANUFACTURERS / NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ" and decorated with a brushed floral motif on reverse; paired with a four-gallon jar with cobalt-script "4", stamped "CONNOLLY& PALMER / NEW-BRUNSWICK" and featuring a large stylized floral design on reverse. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Two-gallon crock with long curving crack from rim on front, two flakes to interior of rim, an iron ping under one hande, some light staining to exterior, and some water glass staining to interior. Four-gallon jar in essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing base chip and an iron ping to inner rim for lid.
