One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "From / James Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, Pa.", circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring diagonal "From James Hamilton & Co." maker's stenciling, applied between wavy freehand stripes. Shoulder area decorated with two straight freehand stripes. Desirable diagonal stenciling. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term Southern VA collection. A thin, tightly-sealed crack on underside, extending 6" up reverse of jar. Chips to bottom edge of rim. Numerous tiny chips to shoulder molding.
