Very Rare Salt-Glazed Stoneware Bottle, Stamped "L KROMEICH / NEWARK", NJ origin, circa 1840, narrow-bodied, cylindrical bottle with footed base and rounded spout molding, the front featuring the circular maker's mark, "L KROMEICH / NEWARK". Exceptional form, potted in the German style. Included with this lot are two Kromeich stoneware sherds, excavated in Newark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Literature. See Greer, American Stonewares, p. 238 for a photo of a signed Kromeich, Newark crock. A chip on exterior of spout, adjacent to a chip on interior of spout. A small in-the-firing contact mark to spout. Shallow base chips. H 9 3/8".
