Two New Jersey Stoneware Bottles, 19th century, a small-sized, salt-glazed example, impressed "Wm. HOUGH'S. / J. CITY.", paired with an Albany-slip-dipped and salt-glazed example, impressed "J. AXTMANN. / NEWARK AVE / HOBOKEN". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Hough bottle with shallow base chips and surface wear. Axtmann bottle with two large, in-the-firing contact marks to one side, a small chip, minor nick, and roughness to spout, and base wear. H (of Hough bottle) 6 3/4".
