Half-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, probably NJ origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooling to body and collar, the front decorated with a slip-trailed crossing vine design. Collar inscribed in slip-trailed cobalt "1/2 G", flanking a flourish along the spout. Two in-the-firing base chips, the larger measuring 3/4" and adjacent to a small piece of adhered clay. A small in-the-firing contact mark to body on side of pitcher. A thin 3 3/4" crack from rim on side of pitcher. A large flake to right of spout, some or all of which occurred in the firing. A minor in-the-firing spout chip. A shallow 5/8" surface flake to interior of rim.
