One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Iron-Oxide Decoration, Stamped "BOSTON.", Frederick Carpenter, Boston, MA, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and flared rim, decorated with a dipped iron-oxide wash on the upper and lower portions of the jar. A tight 2" line on underside, continuing diagonally approximately 4 1/2" up base of jar. In-the-firing base chips and a minor post-firing base nick. A few rim chips. Two small in-the-firing iron pings to reverse and a minor in-the-firing surface chip to reverse, typical of pieces of this age and origin.
