Fine and Extremely Rare York County, PA Redware Jar with Incised Signature, Dated 1848, finely-potted ovoid jar with rounded foot, flared rim, and incised wavy line decoration around shoulder, the surface glazed with splashes of manganese and coated in a clear lead glaze. Underside incised in script "Jacob Rintlaub / 1848 July / 18th." Rintlaub is a previously undocumented potter working in Washington Township, York County, PA. Signed redware from this region of Pennsylvania is highly unusual. Chip to underside. Shoulder with 1 1/4" unglazed contact mark and small glaze flake. Small rim chip and minor rim nicks. Some small glaze flakes to interior. H 6 1/4".
