Extremely Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stamped Twice "WHEELING POTTERY", Wheeling, VA (now WV) origin, circa 1830, ovoid jar with footed base, semi-squared rim, and applied tab handles, the front and reverse impressed with the maker's mark, "WHEELING POTTERY". One of a small number of pieces known bearing this maker's mark, this jar follows a form closely-related to pieces produced further east in the state of Virginia. Provenance: Recently-discovered in a Southern VA home. Base drilled with a 1/4" hole. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition.
