Unusual Stoneware Canning Jar with Cobalt Stripe Decoration, Stenciled "NEW GENEVA / POTTERY", PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with squat-shaped form, tooled accents, and slightly-flared "wax sealer" rim, the front featuring the diagonally-stenciled maker's mark, "NEW GENEVA / POTTERY.", flanked by graduated wavy stripes. Exceptional form for a New Geneva Pottery canning jar, differing markedly from the typical tapered forms associated with this maker. A faint 4 1/4" line on underside, continuing 1 1/4" up base of jar on front. A chip to bottom edge. A faint 1" line on underside, continuing 1 1/4" up base. Two chips to interior of rim. H 7 3/4".
