One-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, cylindrical crock with squared rim and applied tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a large swag-and-hanging flower motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals along with a curving line of cobalt. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced NC collection, purchased by the consignor at the sale of the George & Helen VanKennen Collection, April 13, 1985, Marlin G. Denlinger, Bennington, VT. Large chip to one handle. A minor chip to each end of opposite handle. Minor rim chips. A faint, approximately 3" hairline from rim.
