Unusual One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Incised Mathematics Problem, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / NEW-YORK", circa 1820, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed drape design. Jar includes an incised mathematics problem to the right of the Crolius maker's mark. Brushed cobalt highlights to edges of handles. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a few tiny rim nicks and a small salt drip near base.
