Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Water Cooler with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "NEW YORK / STONEWARE CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.", circa 1875, keg-form cooler circular bunghole and tooled banding accented with cobalt highlights, the front decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a leaf. Includes a loosely-fitting, slightly-domed lid with salt-glazed surface, possibly original to the cooler. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, this cooler once held cranberry juice from Shaw Bogs in Carver, MA, a company that eventually sold to Ocean Spray. Cooler with chips to interior of rim, in otherwise excellent condition. Lid with losses, chips, salt drips, and some short, faint lines. H (including lid) 13 3/4".
