Glazed Redware Dresser Bank, probably English, second half 19th century, slab-constructed Empire-style dresser, composed of scroddled clay with slip-decorated knobs, the entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Reverse with horizontally-carved coin slot. Underside includes a taped, type-written notation, dated 1937, which reads "WILLIAM CLARK (born July 29, 1806) / Learned the trade of a potter. In leasure time he took pleasure in making toys all burned and glazed and shaped as banks in the form of little bureaus or log cabins for his young relatives. The writer has seen a number of these in possession of the families of uncles and aunts. IB. Thorn / 1937". Excellent, essentially as-made condition. L 7" ; W 4" ; H 6 3/8".
