Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'", PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, the surface dipped in whitish slip and decorated with a large spotted tulip motif on each side. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed on the front and reverse with a John Bell maker's mark above a three-gallon capacity mark. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a recessed in-the-firing contact mark to one side.
