Scarce Tanware Jug with Pittsburgh Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1885, cylindrical jug with tall spout, the front featuring the stenciled Albany slip advertising, "H. BROWARSKY / WHOLESALE / DEALER IN PURE / RYE HOME CIRCLE / WHISKIES & BRANDIES. / 361. 5TH AVENUE. / PITTSBURGH. PA.". Difficult-to-find advertising and unusually large size for a tanware product. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a small collection of Pittsburgh advertising stoneware consigned to this auction. A red-painted 1" spout chip and minor red-painted spout nick. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10 1/2".
