Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO. PA", circa 1875, large-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with freehand stripes and vining above Hamilton & Jones maker's stenciling and a series of stylized stenciled designs. Base with stenciled "6" flanked by stenciled flourishes, above a freehand stripe. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A network of in-the-firing lines to underside. A chip to underside at edge with a 4" hairline extending from it at base. Jar is raised on underside, and does not sit completely flat. A post-firing chip to one handle and small, partially glazed-over chip to end of same handle.
