Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Heart Motif, Inscribed "2 Gall", possibly New Jersey origin, circa 1860, ovoid jar with heavily-tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with an elaborate slip-trailed design of a heart, inscribed "2 Gall", surrounded by cascading vines. Reverse additionally inscribed "2 G.". Rim chips. A 2 1/2" in-the-firing vertical surface separation to left side of heart, not visible on interior.
