Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HAMILTON/ & CO. / Greensboro / PA", circa 1860, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, tooling to midsection and shoulder, and large lug handles, decorated with two fuchsia blossom blossoming from a curving stem with graduate leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with William Leet Hamilton maker's mark on reverse. Top of jar slants down slightly to the right. A slightly raised area on underside keeps the jar from sitting perfectly flat. Some in-the-firing lines to underside, not visible on interior. Some bloated spots to front, including some that burst during the firing. A rim chip. Some tiny nicks to shoulder molding. Minor wear to end of one handle. An in-the-firing, 1 3/8" chipped section to base.
