Half-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Swag-and-Floral Motif, Southeastern PA origin, circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed swag and hanging flower motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes loosely-fitted lid with brushed swag decoration and highlight around knob, possibly original to the crock. Crock in very nice condition with a small rim chip, a minor handle chip, a tiny handle nick, and a tiny nick on interior of rim. Lid in excellent condition with minor chips to underside of knob.
