Rare Miniature Stoneware "A B C" Pitcher, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1850, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and applied handle, decorated with the incised and cobalt-highlighted letters "A B C" and "a b c." Possibly made for a child in reference to his or her learning of the alphabet. The use of upper and lower case lettering reminds one of needlework samplers and finer children's china of the period. Provenance: Dr. Raymond L. Owen Collection. Chips to sides of spout and heavy chipping to rim. H 2 1/2".
