Five-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical jug with tooled spout, decorated with a large brushed and slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with spade-shaped leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. A 2 3/4" line from spout on reverse. Small spout chips. A minuscule nick to molding at base of spout. A few chips to bottom edge, one of which occurred in the firing.
