Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HARRINGTON & BURGER / ROCHESTER," New York State origin, circa 1852-1854, ovoid-bodied pitcher with tooled midsection and tall collar with inverted rim, decorated with a finely-slip-trailed daisy plant, including flower buds to the right and leaves to the left. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Made during the partnership of two of the New York State's most distinguished potters, John Burger and Thompson Harrington, during their short-lived partnership between the years 1852-1854. The Harrington & Burger maker's mark is scarce in its own right, and quite rare on a pitcher form. Very nice condition overall. Chip to top of spout. Small rim chip on reverse. Shallow 2 1/4" x 3/8" chip at edge on underside, which almost certainly occurred during the firing. A minor base nick on front and a 1/2" stone ping on side of pitcher.
