Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Game Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a game bird with heavily-spotted body, standing atop a stylized ground with grasses. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. An approximately 6" diagonal crack from rim on reverse. Two minor chips to interior of rim. A small iron ping to interior. Some light staining to surface.
