Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Looping Line Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.", circa 1885, cylindrical crock with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an intricate, slip-trailed looping line design. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some light water glass staining to surface and some minor in-the-firing chips to underside.
