Rare and Fine Stoneware Flask with Incised Floral Decoration, New York State origin, early 19th century, with flattened sides and footed base, decorated on the front and reverse with two four-petaled floral designs, highlighted in cobalt slip. Each design is slightly different, the one side featuring longer, curled petals, the opposite side featuring a cross-hatched center. Brushed cobalt band around spout. Excellent form. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Restoration to mouth of spout. Two in-the-firing chips to bottom edge of flask and a post-firing chip to bottom edge of flask. An in-the-firing contact mark to one side with two smooth pieces of adhered clay. An in-the-firing chip / contact mark to shoulder on reverse. H 6 1/2".
