Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Manganese Star Decoration, attributed to Egbert Schoonmaker, Manhattan or Kingston, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse in manganese slip with a star flanked by two crosses. Brushed manganese highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a fifty-year private collection. A 1 1/8" base chip. Two rim chips, measuring 1 1/4" and 1 1/8". Firing flaws to surface, typical of pieces of this age and origin.
