Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Inscribed "C.", Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of scroll-handled flower basket brimming with leaves, flowers, and dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Unusual slip-trailed "C." to right of decoration. A salt drip at base on far right side of crock's front. Two short lines from rim on reverse, measuring 2" and 1 3/8".
