Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large flowering plant design featuring bull's-eye-shaped blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term private collection. Small chips to interior of rim and heavy chipping to inner rim, where a lid would rest. A small chip, flake, and tiny nick to one handle. One small chip to oppposite handle. A faint line to underside.
