Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. NORTON & CO. / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1860, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large floral spray accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Property of a New York State collector. Some tight surface lines, not visible on interior. Two chips to interior of rim and two chips to exterior of rim. A tiny nick to one handle. A 1 3/4" in-the-firing line to interior of rim, not visible on exterior. Two minor base nicks.
