Fine Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, highly-ovoid jug with tooled spout, the surface covered in a dark-olive alkaline glaze and decorated in kaolin slip with a large flowering plant bearing fan-shaped blossoms flanking a sunflower, inscribed with a horizontal "3" for three gallons. Brushed iron slip surrounding upper handle handle terminal. Professional restoration to spout. Otherwise excellent condition with light surface wear. H 14 3/4".
