One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Asterisk Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, probably Manhattan, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with six impressed and cobalt-highlighted asterisks. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Essentially as-made condition with a 1" piece of adhered clay to surface and other lesser in-the-firing contact marks to surface and a small, glazed-over base chip.
