Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "SEYMOUR & BOSWORTH / HARTFORD, CONN.", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large brushed design of a standing chicken with large tail, spotted breast, and cobalt-highlighted wing. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Tight cracks on underside, extending onto base and partway up body of crock. This damage includes a 3 1/2" T-shaped crack extending up front of crock. A 1 3/4" crack from rim above one handle. A small rim chip. A tight 2" line under one handle, not visible on interior.
