Fine Six-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Large Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER. / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, large-sized, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an artistic slip-trailed design of a wreath flanking a cobalt script "6." with bow at base. Impressed with John Burger maker's mark at rim, flanked by unusual incised and cobalt-highlighted X's. A 7" crack from rim on reverse. Two brown-painted chips on interior of rim, the largest measuring 1 3/8". A few other minor nicks on interior of rim. A small chip to exterior of rim on side of crock. H 14 5/8".
