Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped WEST TROY / N.Y. / POTTTERY", circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a ring-necked bird with crest, perched on a heavily-shaded stump flanked by shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Exfoliation to base, including significant base flakes on reverse. Several rim chips. Two minor glazed-over chips to one handle. A 4 1/2" crack from rim on reverse.
