Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Double Parrot Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO / WORCESTER. MASSS.", circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a two parrots perched on leaves, underscored by three tornado-shaped trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Robert Meltzer Collection. A small in-the-firing contact mark to rim on reverse. A large in-the-firing clay separation on interior, a small section of which is visible on the exterior as a faint line above one handle. A small in-the-firing chip to interior of rim.
