Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-squared spout, decorated with a boldly-brushed design featuring three detailed leaves and two groups of graduated spots representing berries or a flower blossom. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. An unusual design, exhibiting strong color. A 1 3/8" base flake on front, a small base chip on side of jug, and minor base chipping to reverse. Two minor chips to top of spout. Two iron spots to side of jug.
