Lidded Stoneware "DEMUTH'S SNUFF" Tobacco Jar, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG", Pennsylvania origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and flared rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising "DEMUTH'S / CELEBRATED / SNUFF / ESTABLISHED 1770 / LANCASTER, PA.". Provenance: David Musser Collection. A chip to interior of rim. Nicks to inner rim for lid. A chip to top of rim. A few minor chips to outer edge of rim. A small U-shaped line in rim. Some staining. Blurriness to the words "CELEBRRATED" and "ESTABLISHED". Whitish residue to edge of lid. H (excluding lid) 9 3/8".
