Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WM. MOYER. / HARRISBURG. PA", circa 1858-1861, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a flowering vine bearing four daisies, a tulip, two tulip buds, and a spotted bud. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. One of the finest-decorated examples of Moyer stoneware we have ever offered. As-made condition with an in-the-firing contact mark to front center, far right side of front, and handle. The contact mark on far right side of jug's front includes a 7/8" piece of adhered clay. An in-the-firing separation to surface of midsection of handle. Handle remains sturdy.
