Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA", circa 1865, semi-ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a flowering plant design featuring two spitting tulips, a graduated blossom, and a flower bud. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a minor 1 1/2" spider line near base on reverse, and a small in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on front.
