Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, New York City or New York State origin, third quarter 19th century, highly-ovoid pitcher with narrow collar accented with tooled lines, decorated around the midsection with diagonally-brushed foliate designs and along the collar with vertically-brushed foliate designs interspersed with columns of spots. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes original pewter lid with gnome finial. Some spots of fry to cobalt. Damage to spout. An in-the-firing separation line on underside, not visible on interior. H (to top of finial) 13 1/2".
