Rare Two-Gallon Philadelphia, PA Stoneware Advertising Syrup Jug, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1880, cylindrical jug with tooled and pinched pouring spout, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "JOHN HOPKINS. & CO. / IMPORTERS & DEALERS IN / CHINA GLASS & QUEENSWARE/ / 812 MARKET ST. / PHILADELPHIA. Advertising surrounded by cobalt spots and leafy brushwork, underscored by the initials, "J.C.P". This example is the first Remmey stoneware advertising piece in the syrup jug form that we have seen, as well as the first bearing brushed cobalt initials. Chips to pinched pouring spout and a chip to side of spout. An in-the-firing iron ping and small stone ping to front.
