Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER / ROCHESTER", New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plant bearing three flower buds with heavy shading throughout. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark. Very nice condition with a chip and shallow area of wear to one handle, as well as a short, in-the-firing line on interior of rim, which is glazed over.
