One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JACOB CAIRE / POTTERY / POUGHKEEPSIE", New York State origin, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed and slip-trailed design of a flower with spotted center. Cobalt-highlighted "JACOB CAIRE POTTERY" maker's mark on reverse. A thin 3 1/4" crack from rim. One base chip. Minor wear to both handles.
