Very Rare Norwalk, CT Fire Department Stoneware Mug, Northeastern U.S. origin, 19th century, tapered mug with tooled and cobalt-highlighted banding, the front featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted inscription, "HOPE HOSE CO / NO 2 / NORWALK / W HADDEN". The name "W HADDEN" most likely refers to a fireman working at the Hope Hose Company of Norwalk, Connecticut. Highly unusual and desirable subject matter. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Areas of fry to cobalt. Underside with an in-the-firing divot and kiln residue. Two minor rim chips. H 4".
