Six-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Cherries Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG", Pennsylvania origin, circa 1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, decorated with a brushed design of a flower and a cluster of cherries hanging from a leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Restoration to jar, including some restoration to areas of decoration. Lines to surface. An approximately 3" x 2" area of restoration to reverse. A small rim chip on front of jar.
