Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of an open-handled urn with cross-hatched interior, brimming with flowers, leaves, and dotted trails. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A desirable Norton motif. A diagonal crack extending from rim to shoulder on front. An approximately 6 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. Some staining.
