Rare and Fine Glazed Redware Lidded Jar, Inscribed "Solomon Miller / July 24, 1889", Adams County, PA origin, 1889, ovoid jar with footed base, applied tab handles, and flared rim, the surface decorated with heavy manganese sponging and covered in a clear lead glaze. Incised on underside "Solomon Miller / July 24 / 1889" along with an incised "X". Lid incised "Solomon Miller / July 1889" along with an incised "X". Excellent form and glaze. The fact that this jar includes its original lid, which also features the potter's signature, is noteworthy. Jar in excellent condition with light glaze wear to handles and some shallow chipping to base. Lid with professional restoration to an approximately 2 1/2" x 3/4" loss. H (including lid) 9".
