Exceptional Glazed Redware Plate with Profuse Three-Color Slip Decoration, Bucks or Berks County, PA origin, possibly Diehl Pottery, mid to late 19th century, with coggled edge, the lead-glazed interior decorated with four stripes of cream-colored slip festooned with numerous copper and manganese slip slashes on opposing sides, forming stylized stems with leaves. Featuring dramatic color, superb condition, and extensive coverage of the design across the interior, this lot is among the finer Pennsylvania slip-trailed redware plates to come to auction in recent years. Its decoration is closely related to motifs found on pieces by the Diehl Pottery of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, although significantly more elaborate. Over 140 individual slip-trailed strokes were required to create its design. Remarkable, near-flawless condition with a shallow 5/8" rim chip and tiny rim nick. This plate appears to have been barely used. Diam. 8 1/2".
