Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON VT", circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design featuring flowers, leaves, and spotted trails emanating from a scroll-handled urn. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in New York State. Very nice overall condition with some staining to surface, an iron ping to reverse, and a few minor base chips.
